58 SPECIAL SECTION President's Letter: A Look Back at 2016 Another year is nearly behind us. Many of us are busy planning for 2017, but in the midst of all the budgeƟng and developing of plans and goals, I can't help but reflect back on all the changes we've seen in our industry, and in our associaƟon, over the past year. Change is inevitable these days. There is no such thing anymore as "business as usual". We must work harder. We must work smarter. We must evolve in order to stay relevant. We must challenge ourselves to think outside of the box and try new things. "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." — Charles Darwin With these changing Ɵmes, the NLA too, must change and evolve. We have been working harder than ever to bring value to your membership by driving more business to you, developing programs to save you money, fighƟng local legislaƟve baƩles, increasing educaƟonal opportuniƟes, and providing you with tools to improve your operaƟons. Two Website Redesigns In the first half of 2016, the Technology & Social Media CommiƩee, in conjuncƟon with the NLA staff, did an amazing job at bringing you two redesigned websites. received a new look and new content. The new site is easier to navigate and we kept the user in mind at all Ɵmes during the redesign process. We are conƟnuing to add content regularly and we are really focused on growing our "members only" resources and tools. also received a new look this year but what really excites me is the new funcƟonality. This website's sole purpose is to help the public and other operators search for an NLA member. You can now sort by fleet size, search by airport, and request mulƟple quotes at one Ɵme. I hope you are using it regularly. I know I am! New Affinity and Discount Programs We know that bringing you new business is important. We also know that saving you money is important to you as well. We have added four new programs this year to save you money on anything from drug tesƟng to hotel rooms. The Membership CommiƩee is busier than ever reviewing proposals. The affinity and discount programs are only available to NLA members. If you take advantage of the programs we offer, the savings can more than pay for the cost of membership! Year Round EducaƟon on Your Desktop! This year the NLA brought you four quality webinars on four very useful and relevant topics. Topics ranged from insurance to "how to book the business." These webinars were free to members and can be viewed any Ɵme in our webinar archive on We will conƟnue to bring educaƟon right to your desktop in 2017. Be sure to keep an eye out for the next one and do not hesitate to share the content with your staff if you feel that it would be beneficial to them as well. More Tools and Resources As menƟoned earlier, has new content for members. One new component is our Small Business Resource Center (SBRC). This resource gives NLA members the tools they need to run successful ground transportaƟon companies. There are samples of many useful reference documents including job descripƟons, forms, templates and Ɵp sheets.
